Emma’s 4th of July

The morning sun peeked through Emma’s window, and she jumped out of bed with excitement—it was the 4th of July! Downstairs, her mom had made star-shaped pancakes with blueberries and strawberries. Emma and her brother Noah giggled as they sprinkled whipped cream to make their plates look red, white, and blue.

After breakfast, the family walked to the town square for the parade. The streets were lined with flags, balloons, and cheering neighbors. A marching band played lively music, and soldiers waved proudly as they passed. Emma sat on the curb with her coloring book, filling in a 4th of July mandala with stars and fireworks as real ones twinkled in her imagination.

Later, the park buzzed with laughter. Families shared watermelon, hot dogs, and cupcakes topped with tiny flags. Kids played tag while others sat on blankets coloring mandalas filled with stripes and sparkling patterns. Emma proudly showed her parents the mandala she finished—it looked just like the decorations around the park.

As the sun set, everyone gathered on the grassy hill. Emma colored one last mandala, a giant star surrounded by fireworks, before laying back to watch the real show. BOOM! Red sparkles lit the sky, followed by blue and silver bursts. Noah waved his flag, and Emma felt her heart glow.

By the end of the night, Emma’s mandalas were full of color, and her heart was full of joy. She whispered, “This was the best 4th of July ever,” as fireflies danced around her.
